AFIRMATIVO:

There was any grass in the park.

Había hierba en el parque.

There was a biscuit in the table.

Había una galleta en la mesa.

There were- para plurales contables- countables.

There were three trees in my garden.

Había tres árboles en mi jardín.

EN NEGATIVO:

There wasn't- No hay, there weren't- No hay.

There wasn't a mobile in the classroom.
No había un mobil in la clase.

There weren't trees in the park.
No hay árboles en el parque.

INTERROGATIVO:

Were there three trees in the park?
Había tres árboles en el parque?
Was there a tree in the park?
Había un árbol en el parque?
